God and You

This whole God thing is a big deal. Perhaps you are here today looking to find out a little more. For too long the church has been really good at telling people about God, and not helping them experience God. Our hope is for you to not simply know about God, but to meet God in a very real and personal way.

Long before the days of human judgement, love has been the hallmark of the God. From the days of creation where we were created through the love of God, to the days of Jesus, when the love of God took on human flesh. God has been working to make a love connection with all people in all places. The love offered by God allows us to know what it means to be loves, and to show love to others.

  • The beginning of the story
  • . Whether it was a literal seven days or something else matters not. The importance of the story is that God is a creative God. Before there was time, space, being or place God existed in perfect community often called the Trinity. God the Creator or Father, God the Redeemer or Son and God the Sustainer or Holy Spirit. Creation was offered as an extension of God's love and desire for community with humanity.
  • Creation was broken.  There is not shortage of blame to go around when it comes to how the perfect community of humanity and God was broken, however blame is not the point. The creation God intended was broken by humanities attempt to be God, and be self-reliant. Not only was community with  God and humanity broken but all of creation suffered distance in it's relationship with God.
  • God's relentless pursuit of restoration.  Throughout the Old Testament, the first part of the Bible, God attempts to establish a restored relationship with humanity. This is done through the prophets, priests and leaders which God raises up to lead the people. Unfortunately the pull of self-reliance and the desire to be God are strong and humanity would not listen. The New Testament, part two of the Bible, shows God's relentless pursuit in the arrival of Jesus. God become human to walk among us to show what relationship with God looks like. Eventually the brokenness of humanity and God is repaired in the death of  Jesus on the cross covering our brokenness. Jesus' work in the cross offered an atonement, substitute, for the ways we have tried to be God and created distance from God. This could also be called sin. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus were not acts of judgement, rather they were acts of love for humanity.
  • Our journey of restoration. Our journey begins as we recognize God's pursuit for us and our inability to restore ourselves. Life may be all you ever hoped, it also could look very different than you ever thought. The fullest life possible is found only in journeying with God. Living as God calls, seeking justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with the God who loves us. This is more than attendance at a church, or being spiritual. Journeying with God is making the decision to allow God to be the leader and center of your being. This means walking in love rather than judgement, hope rather than discouragement, justice rather than oppression for all of humanity and creation.
